Theme: Mary’s birth marks the dawn of
salvation, where God’s promises begin to be fulfilled in Christ
by Teclus Ugwueze (Rev Fr)
The Church celebrates Mary’s birth not simply to honor her, but to recognize that with her, the dawn of salvation broke through human history. Micah's prophecy looks ahead to a ruler who will come from Bethlehem Ephrathah, the smallest among the clans of Judah, whose origin is from of old. Mary, born of humble lineage, becomes the gateway for this divine ruler, the Christ.
The genealogy in Matthew reveals that God works through broken lines and imperfect stories. Among the names are kings and sinners, men and women, saints and strugglers. Mary stands at the turning point, where grace begins to fulfill promise.
Paul’s assurance in Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good for those who love God” is embodied in Mary. Chosen, called, justified, and glorified, she is the first of the redeemed. Like her, we are invited to cooperate with God's plan, even when it unfolds in mysterious ways.
As Mary is the Ark of the New
Covenant (cf. Luke 1:35-45; Rev 11:19-12:1), her birth signals a new creation
(cf. 2 Cor. 5:17), one that will culminate in the Incarnation.
Prayer
O God of promise, in the birth of
the Blessed Virgin Mary, You began the fulfillment of Your saving plan. As You
chose her to bring forth the Savior, so choose us to bear Christ into our
world. May her faith, humility, and obedience inspire us to say yes to Your
will each day. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
